I read with interest the article by William J. Lederer. I also read with interest his book back in 1961 when I was a young mother of 21. I loved that book, but thought it was fantasy. I didn't believe that the American people could be that 'stupid' and not question everything.

Where do our citizens go to school? I started school the day after the Japanese signed the surrender documents aboard the USS "Mighty Mo". I remember my Dad telling me that education is to 'teach us to learn.' Education is a life-long vocation, your first and primary vocation. Without this, you can never really do anything with your life. We need a new way in this country, and it has to start with the education of the young. Or, maybe, it has to start with the education of 'US' in order to educate our young.

My grandson was homeschooled. He is in the University, now, but I can see how the culture we live in keeps getting him off track about what is important. As long as we put 'money' before everything of true value, we will remain a nation of sheep. TV, Twitter, etc. are buying our young with glitter, glitz, gloss and gross stupidity. While we are watching the ball under the glass, the media and the politics steal our values and our brains.

FDR was president when I was born; Obama is president now. We've come a long way, but we have a long way to go. The Library of Congress is on the web ( I spend a lot of time reading the letters and documents of the founding fathers. Read Washington's farewell address to the nation.

Enough rambling. Remember the young men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and take the day to resolve to not give it away. Jacqi414
An initial small scale response to a Canadian journalist has become a movement where Wall Street is now the metaphor for protesting against: Not being heard in dialogue much less listened to seriously. Wall Street just happens to represent most of the ills in our society, corruption of voters rights among the leading issues that include: Special interests, gerrymandering, insider trading, too big to fail, much less fight. And oh yes, the fact that money buying law-making votes in congress has now replaced votes at the precinct level. The litany can go on and on. Do both parties share the blame? We think so, but probably not equally. Both parties embrace the plutocrats now essentially running the nation via their lackeys in all branches of government. Make Yourself Heard.
George Washington: "I was no party man myself, and the first wish of my heart was, if parties did exist, to reconcile them."

John Adams:"All the perplexities, confusions, and distress in America arise, not from defects in their constitution or confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation." John Adams, Letter to Thomas Jefferson, August 25, 1787"

Thomas Jefferson: "There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."

James Madison: "If tyranny and oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”

I Offer the Communication in this Letter out of Compassion and Love for all human beings and for the entire world.

This is the moment of truth for humankind. Critical choices must now be made, in order to protect the continued existence of human society and of the Earth itself.

This letter is a Call to righten the collective moral disposition of humanity, and to establish a truly cooperative global human community on that basis.

In this Message to all, I call upon the leaders and educators of humankind to actively embrace, and to universally declare and promote, and to actively require the universal real fulfillment of the simplest Law and Measure of humankind, which I have stated in the form: "Cooperation + Tolerance = Peace". The acceptance of this Law as a universal discipline is the basis for (progressively) resolving the current plight of humankind.

For those of you interested in a world without violence and hatred, I wanted to inform you of a moving and thought provoking documentary that traces one man's struggles and triumphs in establishing an official day of Peace.

The documentary is entitled: The Day After Peace and will be shown during the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando, Florida on Septmber 22nd, 2009 at Rollins College on Mills Lawn. This event is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in spreading love, peace, and humanity.

Much has been written on this hot topic. A lot of it is hot air about hot air. Let's examine some proposals from The Atlantic: Judy/August 2009. What you think?

How much of this is science fiction?
The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy 2009

Call for Applications:
Berlin, 27th – 31st July, 2009

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy 2009 will bring together experts from the fields of academia, politics, and the private sector for a week-long program that will focus on the role of soft power in the international environment. The following are a selection of the confirmed speakers for the Symposium:

The word radical, whether noun or verb, usually refers to the extreme wings of the familiar bell curve. In politics, the far Left is just as radical as the far Right, for example. Extremes in any endeavor--be it religion, industry management, social system, or plain old politics, are rarely best for the societies within which they are embedded.

Something must be done or Mother Nature will do iti for us. We destroy wantonly because, collectively, we do not understand nature nor do we understand ourselves.

Why else would humanity be traveling a course of self destruction?

Am I capable of affecting world peace by working consciously on just one little piece of that peace? What if I take responsibility for just one little bitty acre, metaphorically cultivating one sacred acre within me, in my own heart? What if I make all those little choices that create a sacred acre around me, in my family and hearth? Could my family, by our harmonious actions be an impetus for others to do the same, creating sacred acres in our communities? Could the ideal of sacred acres be planted around the earth?

We are on a mission, a sacred acre mission, sowing the seeds of that which is sacred in the fertile soil of our lives. Every act affects my self (heart), my family (hearth), and my world (earth), in that order. This is our heart hearth earth principle
They say that war and violence are born in the heart... therefore it is also in the hearts of men that the quest for Peace must be fought.....

I had mixed feelings when I witnessed the ceremonial signing of the Peace Accord between the GRP (Government of the Republic of the Philippines) and the MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front) last September 2, 1996 in Jolo, Sulu.

The gymnasium of the Mindanao State University (MSU), Jolo Campus was filled to the bleachers and still thousands others contend themselves to just sit on the ground as they listened to loudspeakers connected from the inside, blasting blow-by-blow announcement of the historic moment.
"Nothing that I can do will change the structure of the universe.
But maybe, by raising my voice I can help the greatest of all causes - goodwill among men and peace on earth."

Is it possible to be human without having and experiencing a story of origin framing the reality of our existence? I do not believe it is. Ever wonder at the child’s question: Mommy, where did I come from? Some might name this aspect of being human as a gestalt – or the essence of who we are is greater than the sum of our life experiences. Stories of our origin (or creation stories that shape the identity of whole societies) are integral to the formation of how we see the world – in other words, a world-view – a gestalt.

The necessity and reasons for an alternative democratic system of governance for the restoration of peace, prosperity and happiness.

Sie. Kathieravelu

Respected Sir/Madam,

May you be pleased to permit me to submit a small brief on the necessity and reasons that prompted me in devising a system of governance that is truly democratic and that would certainly go a long way in integrating all the people of this country who are being kept apart by persons who have their own hidden agendas to serve their own personal interests.
The Alternative Democratic System of Governance [is] referred to.

Main Suggestions

Redefine the earlier Village Headman Divisional boundaries and the Provincial boundaries as they existed on 04.02.1948 (the date of independence) with slight adjustments here and there so as to define the boundaries on ground visible to the naked eye of the people of the area, as natural and definite say at least by a bye-lane, stream, [boundary] etc, so that it does not divide a house into two Village Headman Divisions or two Provinces.

The Law makes it illegal to advocate the death or injury of any person or persons for any reason whatsoever.

There is no such law today anywhere in the world.

Contemporary Political Developments in South Asia
The complex peace process between Pakistan and India

By Sohail Mahmood (for Safe Democracy)

Sohail Mahmood writes on the history of relations between Pakistan and India and underlines the essential need for dialogue at all costs. Despite the existence of many contentious issues --from Kashmir, to Siachen, to the destabilizing United States-India partnership--.
The study of peace building and conflict resolution in South Asia are big challenges for academia and scholars of international relations. Despite efforts on many fronts and at various levels, Pakistan and India have failed to materialize the objective of establishing a peaceful and friendly relationship.
Visitor Post (kww)

I'm new here so I figured I'd start with something old. :-) It's a post I made a few months ago, some of it refers to older posts, but you don't need to know that info. to understand the main point(s) of this post. The post is "colored" with some of my own belief. Being an american I feel I have a right to express that...change my mind if you can, I value your perspectives as they "are the mirrors in which we see ourselves."(J. Krishnamurti)

True peace has to be for all, not just u.s. The narcissism and isolationist attitudes of u.s. (and many from north and south America)is a deterrent to world peace.
